Review: The Governess Game by Tessa Dare

Review: The Governess Game by Tessa Dare

The Governess Game follows Alexandra, who takes a governess post from Chase, a future duke with two young wards.

The wards in this book are absolutely excellent. Rosamund is ten, protective, and outwardly hostile, and Daisy is seven, more outwardly vulnerable, very loyal, and in possession of a doll named Millicent, who dies of various illnesses roughly once a day. They are charming and cute and are excellently incorporated into the emotional core of this story.

This book has my very favorite hero trope. That is where he cannot love because he is unlovable. He is unlovable because he pushes people away. He pushed people away because he could not love them. I love watching circular logic be broken down slowly over time.

The heroine of this book is a delight; I love an idealistic nerd with a tragic backstory. I love the friend group. The romance was incredibly cute and I cried. Just a delightful time overall.

I gave this four stars.
