I had a tremendous amount of fun reading this book. And I was very tense. The stakes are very high.

I have not read the first book in this series, though now I think I will double back and do that; and picked this book up purely because it was recommended by the podcast Fated Mates and they made it sound like a wild ride. It certainly was a wild ride. This is a science fiction romance novel set on a prison planet where a death row inmate is being hunted The Most Dangerous Game style by a rich dude. A series of events leads our heroine to also be thrown in the forest to be hunted. Chaos ensues.

Truly this is an excellent romance novel if you were a fan of The Hunger Games. The first 3/4 of this book has so many similarities to the in-arena events of that series; I was truly delighted. This is not to say it is a direct corollary; many differences are present. First off that the hero, Callum, is very much not a Peeta type.

I really did have fun reading from both points of view in this book. Maci, the lady lead, is an incredibly smart and scrappy character. I really liked being in her head. Callum, as I am assuming all the male leads in this series are also, is quite Alpha which obviously is a little eye roll but is fun in the book and makes sense with the 'hardened criminal' thing. I would love to see these characters again because this book was so fun to read.

The plot is bananas; the stakes are high, lots of drama, lots of danger banging, which is a bit 'really? Shouldn't we be doing something else' but also I think this is kind of the point of this genre, so you can't worry too much about it.

I had fun, romance has been really hit or miss for me as I've been reading more the past year, and I am so glad that this has been a hit for me. I will read more of this banans series; I am sure it will continue to be a fun, dramatic time.
